An opened spool needs a place to live between projects. PRINTPANDA's PETG Filament listing is a starting point for selecting the material and color, but storage is a separate workshop decision. Plan where the spool will be kept before opening several colors at once. This is particularly helpful for occasional printing, when a partially used spool may wait much longer than expected.
Separate prevention from recovery
Prusa's filament-drying guidance explains that moisture can affect printing and recommends suitable protected storage. Its USS Drybox documentation makes an important distinction: that passive storage box slows moisture absorption but does not dry filament that is already wet. Apply that distinction when evaluating your own setup. A sealed container with desiccant and an actively heated dryer should not be treated as equivalent purchases.
Keep a simple spool record
Label the material, manufacturer, color code and opening date, and retain the original packaging information. Record any drying treatment separately from storage. If several operators share a workshop, make the current storage location easy to find and secure the filament end according to the spool manufacturer's guidance. The purpose is traceability: someone should be able to identify the material without relying on a handwritten color nickname.
Use instructions for the actual material
Do not copy a drying temperature from a different resin or another manufacturer's product. Confirm the instructions for this formulation, the spool's construction and the drying equipment. If the correct method is unclear, ask before heating it. Poor print quality also has other possible causes, so treat moisture as a question to investigate rather than a diagnosis based only on one photograph.
For purchasing, verify the selected color code, net filament weight and current fulfillment arrangement. Choose a quantity that fits your usage and storage plan; buying more colors is less useful if each opened spool becomes difficult to identify or protect. When planning a repeat project, test the stored material early enough to resolve problems before the deadline. Record the successful setup beside the project file so that the next purchase and the next print both start from clear information.
